Pros:

Well edited, especially with the effects like the colours (Filter effects with the tint), Lip syncing, Transitions (Wipe out Zig Zag).

Good cinematography (Range of different shots)

The audiences liked the concept of the glow sticks and typography, which brings out the theme of the vibrant colours.

Excellent performances, which brings out the liveliness in the music

Some effects with glow sticks overlaying the close up of the lips, made it interesting

Cons:

Increase the editing pace to match up the music, for example the test tube scene and the glow stick scene

More close ups of the instruments

Some scenes dragged on a bit too long, which slower the pace of the editing, especially towards the end. For example the close up of the lips and the chemical scene.

The audiences did not understand the concept of the science scene/chemical scene

What improvements and how I improved?

First, with editing to the beat of the music. The I-stop motion of the glow sticks and the test tubes, pauses in between spaces, so I speed up the motion of the two scenes, as well as cutting in between the rests. In addition, I have made extra improvements in the glow sticks spelling out the word ‘RADAR’. Through making it spelling ‘RADAR’ in reverse.

This is done by either repeating the cutting process or making another copy and rearranging the order in reverse.

I had added additional close ups of instruments of the guitars, but It would be rather plain because there is guitars playing. So in other scenes such as the science scene and the ‘RADAR’ scene, I have re edited it by adding more close ups. For example in the science/chemical scene, there are extreme close up of different colored fizzy drinks/chemicals. And for the Radar scene, I have placed the close up of the silhouette scene in by changing the opacity and using luma key. (The original ‘Radar’ scene only changes the colour of the text, which is quite boring and did n’t quite match the upbeat type music).

Through the changes in the those scene, that I have mentioned. It also helps to improves the prolonged scenes, through making it more interesting. For instance, the close up of the chemicals was used and was over layered on top of Nuru’s performance in her scientists costume, which creates a sense of humor as well as the crazed pop effect that bring out the artists star persona. This also shows that I have applied additional effects, which the audience wish to see.

And other effects that I have used included the mirror effect, combined with the over layer effect in the science scene, which makes it more quirky. And more colour tint effects because the audiences liked the idea of the vibrant colours.

Coming to the end of the music, the duration of close up of the lips were too long, which ruins the climax of the music. In order to build up the music, I have intended to add more interesting sequences into the music, for example I have played around with the idea of having the word ‘RADAR’ coming out of the lips. Through using zoom and luma key, as well as matching up the lips and music so that it syncs.

And I have created a quarter screen at the end, which zooms when it counts ‘1,2,3,4’. Which edits to the beat of the music. This also helps to make the lip scene less boring, even though it’s a long take.

For the audiences, who did not understand the concept of the science scene, it was not meant to be a narrative, so continuity does not apply to it. However, it was more to do with illustrating the lyrics of the music video ‘Have you taken your chemicals?….’ . Which makes the music video more of a conceptual rather than a narrative.

What I could do better?

If there s something I could do better, I would like to make the science scene a bit more clearer to the audiences. For example, I think that when audiences watches a music video they might not be able to hear the lyrics well enough or maybe too fixated on what’s going on the screen/performances. So maybe if I added karaoke subs on the music video, the audiences might be able to understand the purpose of the science/chemical scenes. As well as making the music video a bit more interactive and appealing towards the audiences.
